Welcome to rockland green map's Rockland Green List
About rockland green map
We are calling on our neighbors to suggest sites for the future rockland green map.
The purpose of the green map project is to make green and sustainable resources
available for residents of and visitors to our beautiful county. The information we
collect will be displayed on-line on the rockland green map web site and on a paper map.
Rockland green map is part of the Green Map System (GMS), which gives local mapping
groups a map making framework. There is still considerable freedom in the mapmaking,
but the GMS provides support and guidelines when needed. The categories and list of
features we want to add to the map are provided by the GMS. To learn more about
GMS visit their website, where you also can read our profile.
What goes on a green map?
The map will show organizations, businesses and places that promote a green living or
sustainable practices for the future. We will map local or organic farms/agriculture,
places where sustainable, organic and fair trade products are available and other
ecological, cultural, and historical resources.
We are mapping any organization, business, geographic location that promotes a
sustainable future, green living, local farming or agriculture, sustainable or organic
products, fair trade, ecological practices, cultural and historical features of value
for residents and visitors to name a few. The categories and types will serve as
your guide (see the suggest-a-site page).
We have created a simple wiki with a table where anyone can add information or do
edits, making the rockland green map project accessible to everyone. It works like
a shared online whiteboard.
To access the table for adding a site, create a profile with a name, e-mail
address and a password, then you can edit the site lists. You find more information
at the suggest-a-site page.
Disclaimer
A mapping project involves many steps to design and fill the map with information.
In this process it may be necessary to remove some sites, to make the map readable.
All sites that fit our criteria will be entered in the rockland green map database.
We strive to add sites from all categories on the map, but if we have to, we will
leave out a whole feature type, not just a few sites.
All the information we collect together will be accessible on this site until further
notice and later on the rockland green map home page.
